Checking Out Library Books

We had a busy Tuesday back in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities (Unpack, lunches, calendar, alphabet), but we also included a new poem of the week and some morning work. It was a little tricky, but we did our best. At circle time, we read "Bear Sees Colors" and reviewed the colors. At ELA Workshop, my teacher directed groups reviewed our rule booklets and started DIBELS testing on letter and sound recognition. We will use this information to guide instruction and to make Road to Reading groups later this month. Independent work tables identified colors and used crayons to match the correct color word. The center groups got to choose between books, puzzles, blocks, and social play. After snack and recess, we began our Eureka Math series. We discussed attributes of two related objects, noting when they were exactly or almost exactly the same. We will continue to dig deeper tomorrow!

After lunch, we read "My First Book" and practiced our poem of the week: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Next up, we went to the library with Mr. Withers and Mrs. Frost. Students got to check out library books today! Be sure to take care of them and keep them in  safe place all week. (Your child's backpack is a great place to keep them so they don't get mixed in with your other books) We will return them next Tuesday. Then we went to Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. Many students were telling me the new Spanish words they knew after the lesson. See if they remember them at home! Finally, we went to P.E. with Mr. S. When we got back to Room 203 after all of our specials, we talked about handwriting and practiced forming a letter with wooden pieces. We will use chalk tomorrow, always remember to "start at the top." Then we packed up our homework, library books, had a little free time, and then lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework for the week. Students need to work on writing their name, practice our poem of the week, color in a rainbow with the correct colors, and do a "book report." Parents may help with the book report writing, but students should draw and color the picture. See me if you have any questions or concerns!
