Handprints and Lines

We had a nice Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities and Handwriting Without Tears. Next we read "A is for Alligator" and brainstormed more "Short A" words. During ELA workshop, students worked on identifying "Short A" phonics and words. I pulled groups to make handprints. They matchthe color groups we are in and look very cool!  We also had time during workshop to make dot rainbow pictures. After snack and recess, we had art with Mr. Ricker. I introduced a new unit on lines. We practiced making a mural of different kinds of lines (straight, curved, wavy, zig-zag, broken, etc.) on butcher paper. Then students also got to create their own pictures with lines. We will continue this idea next week. We also had time before lunch, to review letters, sounds, and other skills, plus our poem of the week "Ring-Around the Rosies."

After lunch, we had math. We played the pop-up game, played "Green Light, Red Light" with counting, and played a birthday cake game with a partner. We also worked on classifying objects into three groups. To end the day, we had Second Step. Mrs. Z and I co-taught a lesson on focus and attention, and why it's important to learning. We used our "Attent-o-Scopes" to focus better. We also listened to a song, and played a game with Snail and Puppy. Then we packed up and lined up for home.
