Freight Train

We had a fun Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework, unpacking lunches and snacks, and taking care of our morning activities. We continued our Handwriting Without Tears program by building the letter "E" with wooden pieces. We also used our chalkboards to practice proper letter formation. Next, we read the story "Freight Train." We reviewed the story (and all of the colors included) and then worked to create our own colorful freight train. We used sentence strips and construction paper to sequence the train from beginning to end. They look great! After snack and recess, we went to Spanish with Sra. Colmenero and P.E. with Mr. Simatic. When we got back, we spent the last few minutes before lunch by practicing phonics skills, including beginning sounds, rhyming, and oral blending. We also reviewed our class rules.

After lunch, we recited "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and had math. Lesson three covered classifying to find two objects that share a visual pattern, color, and use. We found objects that belonged and described (using math talk) why they go together. We worked in table groups and it worked out pretty well. After watching more "Harold and the Purple Crayon" that we didn't get to yesterday, we played "Red Light, Green Light" and had recess. When we returned to Room 203, we read "Clifford's Manners" and colored a picture with a partner. Students had some free choice time, too. Then we packed up our Friday Folders, got a special Beye pencil, and lined up for home.

Have a great weekend!
