Crayon Colors

We had a pretty good Thursday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities before beginning our Handwriting Without Tears program. Students used mini-chalkboards to practice our first "frog hop" letter. We practiced some capital "F"s before practicing with our pencils. Always be sure to start at the top!  Next, we read a story called "Cat's Colors" and reviewed all of our crayon colors. During ELA Workshop, independent groups colored in crayons with color words and drew a line to match like sets. My group finished our "School Rules" booklet while I finished DIBELS assessments on letter and sound recognition. Center groups got free choice between blocks, puzzles, and social play. After snack and recess, we had math. Our lesson began with number counting using our fingers and the rekenrek. The main concept development was on finding similar items that are different in one aspect (i.e. two crayons, one red and one blue). We practiced with several examples, but this is a great concept to follow up with at home.

After lunch, we reviewed our poem of the week "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." We also reviewed our alphabet and letter sounds. We had Music with Miss Hanson before playing "Red Light, Green Light" and having some recess. Next, we went to Sra. Colmenero for Spanish and practiced our color words (nice tie-in, right?) To end the day, we read "Harold and the Race Car," had a little free time, packed up, and played some "Mr, Ricker Says" before lining up for home.

Don't forget  to finish up those homework packets for tomorrow!
