Writing Sentences

We had a great Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "Iguana on Ice" and came up with more "short i" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "short i" phonics and writing sentences with "i" words. My groups read "We Can See!" and working on good "I" handwriting. We also worked on "I..." sentences. You'll note that this is a new activity this week.  Since we're working on reading short sentences, I thought that we should also start trying to write some, too. We're using "I like," "I see," "I have", and "I am" sentence starters to help. We're also working on good space and punctuation. It will take some practice, but we will become good writers faster than you think!  The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had Tech Lab. Ms. Castro had us play some rhyming games, including "Phoneme Fun," "Take Away Sounds," and "Adding a New Letter for New Words." You can always access these games at PlanetBravo.com/thirdstreet/.  When we got back to the room, we recited "Little Jack Horner" and did some rhyming.

After lunch, we had math. We worked on counting numbers to 50. We worked with a partner to identify and count numbers 1-50. We also completed a number dot to dot picture. For Star of the Week, we reviewed what we know about Asher. He also shared some cool toys including a jet, a police truck, and an electron microscope. The class like them all!  To end the day, we had Reading Buddies. Our friends from Mr. Bassett's fourth grade read and looked at books with us. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
