The Letter I

We had a nice Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. After morning activities, we read "My 'I' Book" and brainstormed "short i" words like igloo and insect. At language arts rotations, students used crayons, glue, and ice cream cones to make the tactile page "Ice Cream Cones on 'I's on an Igloo." My groups read "We Can See!" and practiced good "I" handwriting. We also tried writing "I ..." sentences on the back. We did a very good job! The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We worked on problem solving by making a diagram. We had a little trouble drawing exact numbers when answers were in the teens, so practice counting and matching those larger numbers with your child at home. Also, use groups of tens or fives when possible. It helps!

After lunch, we recited our new poem "Little Jack Horner." Then we had Art with Ms. Maria, her son Christopher, and Miss Karla. Students worked on Halloween drawings and using watercolors to start a Thanksgiving project. We also had free draw. Then we introduced Asher as our new "Star of the Week." He shared his cool poster and took questions from the class. At P.E., we worked on jumping rope and bouncing a ball again. To end the day, we introduced our new language arts theme of transportation. We discussed what transportation is, and gave examples. Then everyone picked one type of transportation to write and illustrate. Finally, we packed up, passed out homework packets, and lined up for home, Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework for the week!  Picture Day is this Friday. An order form is attached to the homework. Even if you aren't ordering pictures, dress nicely because everyone will get their yearbook and class picture taken.  Also, a flyer for the PTA Reflections contest is included. See me or the office for an official entry form. I will reward any student that participates in this optional activity.
