Applesauce

We had an apple-y Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and with our morning activities. The we read "The Apple Pie Tree" together. At language arts rotations, students cut and pasted together some apple tree art. My groups wrote in our kindergarten journals about what we do with our friends. The other groups started our new secret centers. They include: Painting a giant jack-o-lantern at the Art Center, playing games at Starfall.com and PlanetBravo at the Computer Center, listening to "Woo! the Not-So-Scary Ghost" by Ana Marin Larranaga at the Listening Center, counting sets of pumpkin seeds at the Math Center, and playing with blocks, cubes, Lincoln Logs, and magni-tiles at the Play Center. After recess, we read " Little Mouse and the Big Red Apple" and made applesauce. The students washed their hands and followed our recipe instructions. We cut our apples in very small pieces, put them into an electric skillet, added cinnamon, and cooked them during lunch.

After lunch, we read Charis' apple book and tried our applesauce. It was pretty good!  We also decorated our recipe page (it's in the Friday Folder) and decorated our "Apple Tree" art from the morning. We had missed math in the morning, so we worked on building, writing, and identifying the number 15. For P.E., we tried to stay in the shade on the big yard during our free play. When we got back to the room, we had  a partner coloring project. Then we packed up our Friday Folders, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and gave out green certificates for an all-green week. Have a fantastic weekend!
