Picture Day

It was Picture Day in Room 2. We began Friday by collecting homework and quickly going through our morning activities. We even read the book "Class Picture Day." Then we got called to the auditorium to take pictures. There was quite a bit of waiting, but we did the best we could to be patient. After individual pictures, we got our class photographed in front of the library. When we got back to the room, we read "I is for Iguana." At language arts rotations, students worked on the "long i" sound, as in dime or nine, and writing "I" sentences. My groups wrote a friendly letter to Asher, the Star of the Week. The other groups started our new secret centers. They include: Free draw with colored pencils at the Art Center, playing games at PlanetBravo.com at the Computer Center, listening to "Froggy's Halloween" by Jonathan London at the Listening Center, matching like pumpkins at the Math Center, and using blocks, cubes, dinosaurs, and Legos at the Play Center.  We took a break for recess and then finished up our rotations before lunch.

After lunch, we recited "Little Jack Horner" and had math. We reviewed chapter 3 and worked on problem solving with our tablemates. Next, we worked on finishing our giant jack-o-lanterns. We had decorated giant pumpkins earlier, so we just needed to cut, stuff, and attach a stem. Hopefully, they made their way home today. For Star of the Week, Asher had the class estimate coins. The class made guesses between 5 and 99. There were 96 coins. The best estimation was 99 by Kaia. Then we had a popcorn party!  We earned it with our good work and listening this week. We ate a cup of popcorn and watched the end of our "Sam and Mat" reading video. After packing up, we ended the day by awarding prizes for twenty super star sticks and giving certificates for an all-green week. Have a wonderful weekend!
