Jack-o-lanterns and an Earthquake Drill

We had a busy Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read one of my favorite books, "There's a Bird on My Head?" At language arts rotations, students worked on sewing a pumpkin shape and decorating it to make it a jack-o-lantern. My groups wrote a friendly letter to Mr. Ricker, the Star of the Week. It was our first try, but we did a nice job writing things that we like or learned about the Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we started math. During that time, however, there was an earthquake drill. The class did a great job getting undr their desks and protecting themselves. The drill included going out to the big yard to check in and follow district procedures. We had some books, games, and crayons to occupy us, so the time went pretty quickly. When we got back to the room, it was basically time for lunch, so we set our math to the side for another day.

After lunch, we recited "Pease Porridge Hot" and did some rhyming and oral blending. For art, we continued our topic of lines by looking at still and moving lines. Students showed how lines look when someone is moving by drawing a picture of people playing using curved or bent lines. Then we used tempera paint to add color. For Star of the Week, I shared a timeline and some extra pictures of me and my family. At P.E., we practiced bouncing a ball and jumping rope with a partner. Then we packed up. reviewed homework, played some "Mr. Ricker Says," and lined up for home.

Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
