Road to Reading

It was a good day in Room 203. Other than the heat, things went pretty well. We spent our morning practicing "D" handwriting and brainstorming "D" words. For Reader's Workshop, we learned more from pictures and from words as we read privately and with a partner. We had Road to Reading for the first time, too. Students from kindergarten are put into smaller groups to focus on and practice specific reading skills.  My group did an awesome job! After snack and recess, we had Writer's Workshop. We continued to deal with hard-to-write ideas by using letters, sounds, words, and pictures we know onto the paper.

After lunch, we recited "Hey, Diddle, Diddle," read "Three Little Kittens," and sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." For math, we practiced ordering, counting, decomposing, and writing numbers 1-5.   We quickly reviewed our five senses (we will have our experiment Thursday) and had PEA outside. We practiced bouncing a ball in teams. To end the day, we had Music and Spanish. Then we packed up and headed for home!

Be sure to bring in those library books tomorrow!
