Writing Stories

We had a rainy Wednesday in Room 203. We spent our morning inside with the mist and drizzle, focusing on the letter "F." We read "F is for Flamingo" and practiced our handwriting. We also looked at "Caps for Sale" for read aloud. We visited the library, too. Mrs. Frost read the class a story and let us check out new books. We assessed at Road to Reading so that we can make new groups for next week. After indoor snack and recess, we went to Spanish. Sra. Colmenero taught the class about the four seasons.

After lunch, we recited "Three Little Kittens," read "Five Little Monkeys," and sang "Tony Chestnut." We haven't had writing yet this week, so I decided to switch math out for the day to have a writing lesson. We worked on writing true stories on pages of paper. We started by thinking a trip we have taken, then what we did there. We tried writing the beginning part on the front page and then add the next part on the second page. We are learning to make books, so some students got a third page to add as well. We continue to stretch out sounds and words and encourage independence as we write. It's a process, but it works!  We ended the day with Second Step. Mrs. Sweeney and I led a lesson on more feelings. We talked about being surprised, interested, and scared. Then we reviewed homework and packed up for home!

Scholastic book orders were passed out, too. Return them (or order online) by Friday if you're interested!
