The Letter H

We had a rainy Monday in Room 203. We spent the morning inside because of the constant rain and drizzle. Hopefully it will let up for our field trip on Thursday! We spent our morning learning about the letter "H." We read "My 'H' Book," brainstormed "H" words, and used crayons and foam heart stickers to make the tactile page "Hearts on 'H's on a Heart." We practiced our phonics skills and began a new "If, Then..." unit in Reader's Workshop. We focused on thinking how characters feel during the story. We also looked at  "Last Stop on Market Street" for read aloud. After Road to Reading, snack, and indoor recess, we had Writer's Workshop. We tried to add more to our pictures and stories by labeling people or object in our drawings. We used our nametags and word wall to help.

After lunch, we recited our new poem (Pease Porridge Hot), read "Koala Lou," and sang "Five Little Pumpkins." We also had math. We worked on reading stories and counting the numbers used in the story. It was a little tricky, but we got it!  Next, we introduced Mr. Ricker as our "Star of the Week." I shared my poster and told the class what to expect this week. It should be fun!  We ended the day with Spanish and P.E. Then we packed up our green folders, reviewed our new homework, and lined up for home.

Be sure to check over homework folders. We have a new sight words page and some take-home books to read as part of our work now. See me if you have any questions or concerns. Let's have a great week!
