The Octopus

We had a fun Friday in Room 2. When the class came in today, there was a surprising number of students wearing my favorite color...How did that happen? After taking a quick picture, we collected homework, had Nutrition, and took care of our morning activities. We read two books: "Octopus" and "Octopus Under the Sea." At language arts rotations, students made their own octopus using crayons, scissors, glue, and Cheerios. They look cute!  My groups read "Bug in a Web" and finished up Mother's Day writing. The other groups had secret centers. After recess (which was half outside/half inside because of the rain), we had math. We had our end of the year number writing activity, where students tried to write all of the numbers from 1 to 100 independently.

After lunch, we reviewed all 100 of our sight words and recited "Rock-A-Bye Baby." We also finished up decorating and putting together our Mother's Day gifts and cards. They went home today. We hope that you like them! For Star of the Week, Stella had the class estimate painted pasta pieces. The class made estimates between 10 and 99.  There were 81 painted pasta pieces!  Karma made the best guess of 80. After P.E. on the kindergarten yard (where it started raining again), we had a popcorn party!  We got to munch on a cup of popcorn and watch "The Magic School Bus Goes to Mussel Beach," which was about tide pools. After reading a quick book and introducing a new song for culmination, we packed up Friday Folders, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and gave out certificates for an all-green week. Have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!

Don't forget to work on your animal report & diorama projects!  They are due on Wednesday, May 18th.
