Telling Time

We had a nice Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning activities. Then we read "Sleepyhead Sloth" and brainstormed "S" blend words that start with "sl, sc, or sw." At language arts rotations, students worked on "S" blend phonics and sentences. My groups read "Rosie's Walk" and made a memory game with character cards from the story. I also continued our end of the year reading assessments. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We're starting a weeklong study of time. Today we learned what each of the hands on a clock means and how many minutes are in an hour. Then we made analog clocks using paper plates, clockfaces, red and blue clockhands, and a brass fastener. Then we practiced telling time to the hour.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words of the week and recited "Jack Sprat." We also went to Room 8 to rehearse our songs for culmination with Ms. Genut and Mrs. Navarrette. When we got back, we played our memory games with a friend.  For Star of the Week, we introduced Zuri. She shared her cool poster and took questions from the class. After P.E. on the kindergarten yard, we spent a little more time on time. We practiced reading the time on a digital and analog clock. We also got a chance to practice telling time with a partner. To end the day, we packed up, passed out homework, and shared a  couple of books brought in by students. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to check over our last homework packet of kindergarten. Looking ahead, remember that we do not have school next Monday, May 30  for Memorial Day.
