The "Th" Digraph

We had a busy Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning activities. Then we read "The Thing That Went Thump" and brainstormed some "th" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "th" handwriting and sentences before using crayons, glue, and thread to make the tactile page "Thread on 'Th' on a Thumb." My groups started labeling "The Life Cycle of a Butterfly" on a paper plate and making a background for it. We will finish them tomorrow. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We worked on shapes and position by identifying shapes and drawing others above, below, next to, behind, or in front of others.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words for the week and recited "Bedtime." Then, following our lesson on nouns last week, we learned that adjectives are words that describe a noun. Students came up with adjectives to describe a boy, a girl, and a butterfly. Next, we introduced Pierra as our Star of the Week. She shared her cool poster and took questions from the class. After P.E. on the big yard, we tried a read and respond activity using a story about "Betty Beetle." It was a little tricky, but we did a pretty good job!  Then we packed up, passed out homework, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to check over homework for the week!  Students should return library books on Tuesday. Also, remember about our field trip on Friday. See me if you have any questions or concerns!

Finally, in case you didn't know, we got some caterpillars last week. They spent most of their time eating and getting bigger. When we got to school this morning, some had started to make a cocoon and enter the pupa stage. We will keep our eyes on them in the days to come. You can stop by Room 2 and check them out for yourself!
