Ants!

We had a good Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning activities. Next we read "April Fool!" and "Z is for Zebra." At language arts rotations, students worked on "Z" phonics and sentences. My groups read Sam and Mat book #6. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We reviewed our position words (above, below, in front of, behind) and introduced the terms "beside" and "next to."

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words, recited "This Little Piggy," and sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider." We also started our new California Treasures theme of "Amazing Creatures" by learning about insects. We now know that insects have three body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), six legs, and two antennae. We read two short books on ants, too. Then we made our own ant. They look cool!  For Star of the Week, Moses had the class estimate Uno cards. The class made guesses between 15 and 99. There were 31 Uno cards. Sam got it exactly!  Then we had a popcorn party. We watched "The Magic School: Ants in the Pants" and ate a cup of popcorn. After packing up, we had some P.E. on the kindergarten yard.  When we came in, we awarded prizes for super star sticks and passed out certificates for an all-green week. Have a fantastic weekend!
