The Butterflies Emerge!

We had an exciting Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. We also noticed that one of the butterflies had emerged from the chrysalis!  And, over the rest of the day, three more emerged! The class was very excited to look at and observe the butterflies the rest of the day during our breaks. We read "A Whistle for Willie," too. At language arts rotations, students worked on some "wh" phonics and sentences. My groups did our ELA assessment on opinion writing. Each child had to pick the better pet - a cat or a dog - and support that choice.. We did a great job!  The other groups had the last secret center of this rotation.  After recess, we went to the new Tech Lab in Room 36. Students learned about web etiquette from Ms. Castro. We also got introduced to some new games. When we got back to Room 2, we reviewed sight words and recited "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?"

After lunch, Miss Rosie read the class the book "At the Ocean"  to introduce our new theme. We're continuing the "Amazing Creatures" theme, but transitioning to ocean animals. We started by coming up with example of animals that live in the ocean. Students them completed a project to find what belongs in the ocean. For Star of the Week, Sam shared some of his favorite toys. He had a collection of Hot Wheels cars, a soccer game, a soccer ball you can "kick," and a talking Darth Vader. The class liked them all!  After P.E. on the big yard, we ended the day with our Reading Buddies in Room 19. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
