A Touch Experiment

We had a good Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. We read "Somewhere in the Ocean," too. At language arts rotation, students worked on more "wh' phonics and sentences. My groups read "A Bud is Up" and worked on Mother's Day presents. The other groups started our new secret centers. They include: Decorating a sea horse with oil pastels and watercolors at the art center, Lexia Learning and games at Planet Bravo at the computer center, "Five  Little Sharks Swimming in the Sea" by Steve Metzger at the listening center, teddy bear subtraction at the math center, and blocks, connector shapes, gears, puzzles, and ocean animals at the play center. During center time, the fifth and final butterfly emerged, too. We will keep the butterflies for another day or so..they look ready to fly and be free! After recess, we had math. We reviewed and reflected on chapter 11 on two-dimensional shapes. We identified shapes, reviewed vocabulary, and counted sides and vertices.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone," and reviewed some phonics skills. We also had science. We read "Touch" and had an experiment where we explored the room looking for objects that felt soft, hard, smooth, rough, hot, and cold. We also had some students try to identify mystery objects only by touch. We did pretty well!  For Star of the Week, Sam read and shared "Can I Play Too?" He did a great job!  At P.E., Coach Angel had us play "Capture the Bacon (or Beanbag)." To end the day, we checked out books in the library and had time to listen to a story from Mrs. Singh. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
