The "Sh" Digraph and Ladybugs

We had a fun Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning business. Next, we read "Shelly's New Shoes" and brainstormed some "sh" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on neat "sh" handwriting and sentences, plus using crayons, glue, and shell pasta to make the tactile page "Shells on 'Sh's on a Ship." My groups took the chapter 10 math test and read Sam and Mat book #7. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we had math. We reviewed all of our two-dimensional shapes before focusing on circles and triangles. Students made a picture with circles and triangles, plus we worked on identifying each.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words of the week and recited our new poem, "Come to the Window." We also read two books about ladybugs before making one of our own. We used construction paper and a brass fastener to give it wings that move.  They look cool! For Star of the Week, we introduced Peter. He shared his awesome poster and took questions from the class. Next, we had P.E. on the big yard. To end the day, we read "The Very Grouchy Ladybug." We also took magnifying and went outside to explore the grass and bushes to look for insects. We will try and collect them in our "bug hotel" all week. Then we packed up, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home.  Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. Return permission slips for next week's field trip if you haven't already. Also, our final at-home project of the year went home today: The Animal Report and Diorama. You may want to start thinking of a wild animal to focus on and look for a shoebox for the diorama. Instructions and a report booklet are included with the homework. Projects aren't due until Wednesday, May 18th...
