Tech Lab and Reading Buddies

We had a short, but memorable Tuesday in Room 2. We began our day with Nutrition and morning activities. We read "Fifi Ferret's Flute" and came up with more "f" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on an "f" cut and paste phonics page and wrote "f" words on the back. My groups read "I See the Apple" and worked on "F" handwriting. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Mr. Scott had us work on sorting. We played "Clifford's Sorting" and "More Sorting," and did a little keyboard review if we finished early. By the way, you can access our weekly games at PlanetBravo.com/thirdstreet. Click on Weekly Lessons and Kindergarten, then you can practice them at home! When we got back to the room, we recited "Three Little Kittens," did some rhyming, and had some circle time.

After lunch, we read a book Baeman brought in and practiced "I'm a Little Teapot." Then we had math. We worked on reading and writing the number 10. We had a little free time, so we had afternoon snack and a quick P.E. before returning back to Room 2. To end the day, we had Reading Buddies for the first time. We will be meeting Mr. Bassett's fourth and fifth graders from Room 19 every Tuesday afternoon to read, share, and learn. We find that an older buddy keeps students interested in reading and improves their process. It's also nice to have another friend. After we partnered everyone, we read books at the picnic tables. When we were done, we said goodbye. Then we put up our chairs, packed up, and lined up for home!
