Valentine's Day!

Friday was Valentine's Day! We started like any other Friday, by collecting homework and taking care of our morning business. Then we read another of John's books: "Chameleon's Crazy Colors." For language arts rotations, we wrote letters to John, our Star of the Week. At my table, groups worked on "Bears, Bears, Everywhere" writing. Other groups had their final secret center. After snack and early recess, we went to the auditorium for our last visit form the Star Eco-Station. Teacher Tiffany showed us four animals: a Russian tortoise, a bearded dragon, a green iguana, and a mangrove monitor lizard. It was fun petting and learning about these animals every week!

After lunch, we recited our poem "There Was a Crooked Man." Then we read a book on Jackie Robinson and colored a picture of him. When we were done, we packed up our holiday gifts and passed out Valentine cards and treats. Before the party started, we had Star of the Week. John had us estimate pasta pieces. There were 80. Mia got it exactly!  Then it was time for our Valentine's Day Ice Cream party!  Students got to pick vanilla or chocolate ice cream, and then choose from a bunch of toppings like whipped cream, sprinkles, and maraschino cherries. They were very good! I think the class enjoyed getting seconds and then playing on the yard for awhile, too. We ended the day by reading "Valentine's Day," packing up, and passing out certificates for an all green week. A big "thank you" to all of the parents that helped by joining us or donating items for the party. We appreciate it!

Don't forget that we don't have school on Monday in honor of Presidents' Day and that Tuesday will be a 2:30 P.M. dismissal day.  Have a great three-day weekend!
