Reading, Writing, and Art

We got a lot done this Friday in Room 2. We started by collecting homework and taking care of our morning business.  After a quick story, we had language arts rotations. Students worked on "W" phonics and writing sentences using "W" words.  At my table, we took the Topic 10 test in math and read "Sam and Mat" book 5. We're really focusing on sounding out "cvc" words and recognizing sight words right now. The two other groups had secret centers.  After snack and recess, we had math. We worked on parts of 11, 12, and 13.

After lunch, we read a story and had art. We're finishing our unit on shapes, so I thought I'd give the class a challenge. We tried to cut out shapes and create mirror images with construction paper. It was tricky for a few students, but we mostly did a great job. Check out above to see!  For Star of the Week, Katie had us estimate puzzle pieces. There were 62. Samara made the best guess of 61!  We went out for P.E. on the big yard. When we got back, we learned a little about Dr. Maulana Karenga, the creator of Kwanzaa. Then the class colored in a picture of Dr. Karenga. To end the day, we packed up Friday Folders, counted super star sticks, and gave out awards for the week. Have a great weekend!
