Skeletons, Color Wheels, and a Lot of Rain!

It was a wet day this Friday in Room 2. Fortunately, it was also pretty fun. We started a little early because of the rain again. After collecting homework packets and taking care of our morning business, we read a book about our skin and bones. Then, at language arts rotations, we used a white crayon and pasta pieces to make our own skeletons! My groups labeled six different bones in a skeleton and wrote three sentences about bones. The other two groups had secret centers. After an indoor snack and indoor recess, we read "Rain, Rain, Everywhere" and had math. Since we reviewed addition yesterday, we reviewed subtraction today. We'll start Topic 12 on Monday.

After lunch outside by the cafeteria, we watched a movie on the water cycle for recess. For art, we introduced our new unit on color and made color wheels. Students painted red, yellow, and blue slices before mixing those colors to create orange, green, and purple in-between. They look great!  We got a special treat after that: Mr. Riko had an opening in his afternoon and let us visit the Tech Lab! He showed us some games at abcya.com and let the class have free computer play for a half hour. Pretty cool, huh? When we got back, we had Star of the Week. Lily had us estimate yellow and red game chips. There were 47. The closest guess was 46 by Jakob. Then we had a popcorn party! We watched "The Magic School Bus: In a Pickle" and ate a cup of popcorn. When it was over, we packed up Friday Folders and passed out prizes and certificates for an all green week before lining up for home. Have a great weekend!
