More With Short U

A busy day in room 2 this Wednesday! We started with our morning business, as always. Then we read "Umbrellabird's Umbrella" and tried to find more "U" words. For language arts rotations, we worked on sounding out and matching "short u" words to pictures. My tables read "Go, Go, Go" and wrote their opinion of which pet is better: cats or dogs. After snack and recess, we recited "Little Boy Blue" and had math. We made a graph and shared 100 Day books.

After lunch, We worked on oral blending and sounding out cvc words. I also introduced the song "Apples and Bananas" and showed how the "silent e" at the end of a word affects the pronunciation. Then we had language mixing with Mr. Duffy. My group discussed how animals move, wrote movement words, and danced to "Animal Action." For Star of the Week, Joel shared his favorite book: Curious George and the Puppies. It was silly!  We went out to the big yard for a little free recess before P.E. with Coach Angel. He had the class practice their throwing and hitting skills. To end the day, we went to the library. Mr. K read us "A Story" from "Frog and Toad are Friends." Then we packed up and headed for home!
