Eco-Station and a Popcorn Party!

Another fast and fun Friday in Room 2. After collecting homework and morning business, we read two stories: "U is for Unicorn" and "Animal Snackers."  At language arts rotations, students worked on "Short U" words and sentences. My groups read "Mit, Mat, and Sis in the Sun" and wrote about our favorite animal in our journals. The other two groups had secret centers. After a quick snack and recess, we went to the auditorium for another visit from the Star Eco-Station. Teacher Tiffany shared four animal with us: a tarantula, a red-eared slider, a Chinese water lizard, and a dumeril boa. Tiffany shared many facts with the class and let everyone touch or handle each of the animals. Lily, Samara, and Abbie even held onto the boa together!

After lunch, we recited "Little Boy Blue" and had science. We wrapped up our unit on the Earth, but I wanted to discuss landforms with the class next. This week we read about life in the rain forest. Students then tried to create a rain forest picture by making many trees with construction paper and then filling it with animals. For Star of the Week, Joel had us estimate crayons. There were 32 crayons. The best guesses were 31 by Basia and 33 by Mr. Ricker! We went out to the big yard for P.E. and played with balls and jump ropes. When we came back we had our popcorn party. The class enjoyed a cup of popcorn to go with "The Magic School Bus: In the Rain Forest." Then we packed up our Friday Folders, gave out prizes for 20 superr star sticks, and then handed our green certificates for an all-green week before we lined up for home!

Have a great weekend!  Don't forget that we have a field trip next Thursday and a Valentine's Day ice cream party next Friday!
