Free Form Shapes and Basketball

We had a fun Friday in Room 203. We spent our morning reading in Reader's Workshop and working on "How-To" stories in Writer's Workshop. After snack and recess, we had an art lesson on free form shapes. We learned that free form shapes are shapes that don't have names. Then we drew, traced, and used watercolors to paint our own free form shapes.

After lunch, we looked at a Time for Kids on measurement and had math. We found ways to decompose the number 8 and then tried some number bonds and subtraction problems with the number 8. After some workshop, we had a "goldfish" party to celebrate good behavior. We munched on goldfish crackers and watched "Corduroy" together. We ended the day with P.E. and Music. We played some basketball with Mr. Simatic in the gym and then watched the K-2 students and teachers play the March Minute Madness basketball game. Amira played for the students and Mr. Ricker played for the teachers. You'll have to asked your child to see who won! After Music with Mrs. Karia, we made our way back, packed up, passed out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and lined up for home.

Have a great Spring Break!
