Yum or Yuck

We had a tasty Wednesday in Room 203. We began our day with our regular morning activities and HWT. We also read "The Five Senses." After Road to Reading, we had math. We worked on adding two numbers with sums up to 10. After snack and recess, we read part of "The Magic School Bus: Explores the Senses" and had ELA Workshop. Students independently worked on sorting good and bad smells. My groups wrote about plants in our kindergarten journals. We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed all of our sight words, recited "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep," and continued our study of the five senses. We read a book on taste and learned about our taste buds, as well as different tastes: sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. Then we had a "Yum or Yuck" experiment where we ate foods with different tastes and decided if we liked them. We tried salty pumpkin seeds, a sweet apple, bitter chocolate, sour lemon, and a spicy Hot Cheeto. Most students seemed to like all the tastes, which surprised me a little. I guess they were happy with the experiment! For Star of the Week, Marin shared her favorite book, "Dinosaurs" with the class. She did a great job reading!  We ended the day with Second Step. We practiced fair ways to play while we played games. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.

Be sure to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!  We do not have school on Friday, so it's due on Thursday.
