More With Y

We had a fast Tuesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities and our last HWT. We finished the book today.  Hooray!  We also read "The Yak Who Yelled Yuck" and brainstormed more "Y" words. After Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We started a new "How-To" story, focusing on the first step of what happens. After snack and recess, we read "Y is for Yak" and had ELA Workshop. Students independently worked on "Y" phonics and sentences. My groups started an insect art project and read Sam and Mat book #8.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Yankee Doodle," and practiced some phonics skills. Then came our run of Tuesday specials. First we went to the library where we listened to a story and checked out a book with Mr. Withers and Mrs. Frost. Next, we went to Spanish and learned more about the jungle with Sra. Colmenero. Finally, we had P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We played some fun games with him in the gym, including Angry Birds Breakdown. When we got back to the room we had Star of the Week. We reviewed what we know about Mekhi and then he shared some cool toys. He had a toy SWAT truck, a talking Stormtrooper, a toy motorcycle, and a Jenga game. The class liked them all! Then we packed up, reviewed our homework, and celebrated Marin's birthday. She gave everyone a fun present, too. Happy birthday Marin!
