More With Z

We had a busy Tuesday in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities. We read "Zack the Lazy Zebra" and brainstormed a few more "Z" words. Next, we had Star of the Week. We're trying to adjust our schedule since we finished our HWT workbook. We reviewed what we know about Miles before he shared some cool toys. Miles had a Lego guy, a T-Rex, a Chameleon toy, and a basketball. They were neat!  After Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We learned that writers write as many books as they can, so we wrote as much as we could, either starting or finishing "How-To" stories. After snack and recess, we read "Butterflies," "Z is for Zebra," and had ELA Workshop. Students worked on "Z" phonics and sentences independently. My groups started a "Life Cycle of a Butterfly" project. We also had aa secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "This Little Piggy," and practiced our phonics skills. We went to the library, but could only check out books since Mr. Withers was busy helping the upper grades with testing. In Spanish, we had a vocabulary review with Sra. Colmenero. In P.E. we played some fun tag games, including Pac-Man Tag, with Mr. Simatic. We ended the day by reading a book on butterflies and having a bit of choose time. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.

The class got a chance to see the butterfly chrysalis today. I placed them on the top of the butterfly netting to see. No changes yet, but we're hoping that some butterflies emerge later this week or early next week!
