Ants

We had another "buggy" day in Room 203. We began our Thursday with our morning activities. We read "What is an Insect?" and labeled the three parts of an insect: head, thorax, and abdomen. We also counted and labeled their six legs. Next we went to the Computer Lab and worked on LexiaCore5 learning games. We are doing a great job! When we got back, we had Writer's Workshop. We talked about including a diagram in our "How-To" writing. After snack and recess, we read "Ants" and had ELA Workshop. Independent groups made their own colorful ant with three body parts, six legs, and two antennae. My groups wrote a friendly letter to Mekhi, our Star of the Week. We also started a new rotation of secret centers. They include: making a butterfly wristband at the Art Center, LexiaCore5 games at the Computer Center, adding insects at the Math Center, spider and insect viewfinders at the Mystery Center, writing the missing words in a bee story at the Reading and Writing Center, and finding the ten hiding insects in the Science Center.

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words, recited "Yankee Doodle," practiced some phonics skills, and sang "The Bugs Go Marching." At Music, we practiced more of the "Three Piggy Opera" with Mrs. Hansen. For math, we used numbers from a story to make number sentences. In Spanish, we talked more about the jungle with Sra. Colmenero. For Star of the Week, Mekhi shared some nice family photos. We ended the day with a little extra free choice time (yay!). Then we packed up, reviewed homework, counted super star sticks, and read Mekhi's favorite book "No, David!"

Be sure to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
