More With W and Plants

We had a wet Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day in the auditorium before taking care of our morning activities. We read "Worm's Wagon" and brainstormed more "W" words. After HWT, we read a "Time for Kids" issue about inventions together. Next, we returned to the auditorium for an Earth Week assembly. We watched a video made by Beye students and talked about how we can better take care of our planet. We also sang a song called BYOBB (Bring You Own Bags and Bottles). When we got back to the room, it was still raining out, so we had indoor snack and recess. Next, we read "W is for Woodpecker" and had ELA Workshop. Students worked on "W" phonics and sentences independently. My groups started a plant project and read Sam and Mat book #6. We also visited our last secret center of this rotation.

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words, recited "Humpty Dumpty," and practiced some phonics skills. Then we read a book on flowers before putting together our own giant flower. We used the parts we sponge painted on Monday to create a huge flower (from "The Tiny Seed") that had a stem, leaf, petals, roots, and a seed. They look great!  It took awhile to finish, so we have to make up our Star of the Week time with Jaliyah tomorrow morning. For Second Step, Ms. J.C. and Mrs. Z led a lesson on fair ways to play. We learned to share, trade, or play take turns if we have a problem. Then we put those ideas into practice by playing some games with friends. To end the day, we sang a belated "Happy Birthday" to Yahkid before packing up, reviewing homework, and lining up for home.
