More with X and the 5 Senses

We had a nice Tuesday in Room 203. We began the day by meeting our new classmate, Pinero.  We look forward to learning about and with our new friend! After taking care of our morning activities and HWT, we read "A Xylophone for X-Ray Fish" and brainstormed more "X" words. After Road to Reading, we talked about our theme of the week, the five senses. Today we read a book about smell and had a smelling experiment. We sniffed different odors and tried to figure out what they were. There was mint, lemon, vanilla, and coconut. We guessed them all! After snack and recess, we read "X is for Xig-Xag" and had ELA Workshop. Independently, student worked on "X" phonics and sentences. My groups read Sam and Mat book #7.  We also visited a secret center.

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words, recited "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep," and practiced some phonics skills. Then came our run of Tuesday specials. We listed to a story and check out a book with Mr. Withers and Mrs. Frost in the library. Then we learned about the rain forest and Earth Day with Sra. Colmenero in Spanish. Finally, we played Virus Tag and Pirate Treasure at P.E. with Mr. Simatic. We ended the day with Star of the Week. We reviewed what we know about Marin. Then she shared some cool toys including Big Dog, Reagan and Megan Beanie Boos, a stuffed ladybug, and Snow the cat (plus her kittens). The class liked them all! Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
