Theater Performance

Mr. Ricker was back on Thursday, so things got back to normal in Room 2. We began with Nutrition and our usual morning activities. We read two short stories: "Pumpkin Eye" and "J is for Jaguar." At language arts rotations, students worked on a "J" trace phonics page, plus words or sentences. My groups wrote a letter to Stella, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling" and had math. We worked on reading, counting, and writing the numbers 13, 14, and 15.

After lunch, we had our Theater Performance. The class performed "Humpty Dumpty," "Little Mr. Muffet," and "Hey, Diddle, Diddle." They did a wonderful job! It was nice to see the boys and girls integrate the concepts of sequencing, improvisation, tableau, projection, and gesturing into their performance. It was also nice to see so many parents! I'm very impressed with the turnout at a 12:00 show!  The class and I really appreciate it! When we got back we read "Runaway Pumpkin" and worked on sounding out words, plus had a little choose time. For Star of the Week, Stella shared some nice family photos. At P.E., we used jump ropes and hulas hoops. To end the day, we had art. We're starting a new unit on shape. We looked a picture called "When Worlds Collide" and outlined some of the shapes in it. Then we each made our own space creature picture. First we used pencil, then we outlined and colored with oil pastels. FInally, we cleaned up, reviewed our homework for the week, and lined up for home!

Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for Friday!
