An Apple-y Day

We had an apple-y Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with nutrition and morning activities  before reading the story "The Apple Pie Tree." At language arts rotations, students made some Apple Tree art. They cut out paper grass, leaves, and a trunk with scissors. Then we balled up tissue paper to make little "apples" to go on the tree. They're cute!  My groups read "I Am" and wrote about places we go in our kindergarten journal. The other groups had their last secret center of the rotation. They change tomorrow.  After recess, we recited "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary," did some rhyming, and had math. We counted numbers up to ten and compared them to each other, looking for greater or fewer. It went pretty well.

After lunch, we sang "I'm a Little Teapot" together. Then we did an activity that will be a center starting Thursday. We listened to the story "Stripe" on the tape player. Then we wrote the title of the book, the author, and whether or not we liked the story. We drew a picture and then wrote a sentence (with help) about what happened in the book. Sound familiar? It should. The listening center is almost exactly like our weekly book report, minus the parent. We'll see how well we do them independently in our next center rotations. We had science next. We read "Apples" and had a taste test of red, green, and yellow apples. Then we documented our favorite. I think the class likes this kind of experiment. We had a short afternoon snack on the big yard and then went to P.E. Coach Angel had us play games with a large parachute. It was fun!  We ended the day in the library. Mrs. Singh read us "Boomer Goes to School" and "Manners in the Library." I don't know if it was the second book she read or what, but this was our best behavior in the library all year. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and has a quick "Mr. Ricker Says" before we lined up for home!
