The Letter H, Apple Pie, and Art

We had a full Monday in Room 2. We began by collecting Friday Folders and by having Nutrition. Then we took care of the calendar and our morning activities before reading "My H Book" and brainstorming "H" words. At language arts rotations, students made the tactile page "hearts on 'H's on a Heart" by using crayons, glue, and candy hearts. My groups read "We Can See!" and practiced good "H" handwriting. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new poem "Pease Porridge Hot," did some rhyming, shared  some "All About Me" books, and had math. We compared numbers to ten, seeing if they were greater or fewer.

After lunch, we read "Up! Up! Up! The Apple Picking Tree!" Then we reviewed the parts of an apple (stem, skin, flesh, core, seeds) before creating our own using colored paper, glue, and black beans (to represent seeds). When students fiished, they got to enjoy a piece of apple pie. Alexander's mom was kind enough to bake one over the weekend to share with the class. It went pretty fast. So much so that I didn't get any! Next, we started "Star of the Week." Beginning this week, we will celebrate one student a week in the class. They will get to make a poster, bring in toys, books, pictures, and more to share. I will send a note in advance when it is your child's turn. This week, I am the Star of the Week to show students how it is done. today I shared a poster of pictures and my favorite things. Then I took questions from the class.  For P.E., we practiced bouncing balls and jumping rope. When we got back to the room, we had art with Ms.Maria and Miss Karla. We created art inspired by Andy Warhol by blending paints. Then we cleaned up, packed up, passed out homework packets, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Don't forget to check over this week's homework packet. Three items of note : One, "All About Me" books are due TOMORROW. Be sure to finish them and be ready to read to the class. Two, Picture Day is this Thursday. Dress nicely, be ready to smile, and bring in the order form that I attached to the homework. Third, October book orders went home today. You may send them in (with payment) by Friday, or order online using our class code, if you're interested.
