The Letter I

We had a great Monday back in Room 2!  We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and with Nutrition. Then we had Ziggy update the calendar and took care of our morning activities. We read "My I Book" and brainstormed some "short i" words, such as igloo and iguana. At language arts rotations, students made the tactile page "Ice Cream Cones on 'I's on an Igloo" using crayons, glue and actual pieces of ice cream cones. My groups read "Am I?" and practiced writing neat "I"s. We also wrote sentences that started with the word "I."  The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we learned our new poem, "Little Jack Horner" and had math. We talked about and made two more.

After lunch, we read "Apples and Pumpkins" to introduce our new fall topic. Then we made Pumpkin Guy or Pumpkin Girl! We had started coloring pieces on Friday, so today we focused on the pumpkin and gluing everything together. We introduced Ziggy as our Star of the Week next. She shared her cool poster and took questions and comments from the class. She gets to share things each day this week, along with being our teacher assistant and line leader. At P.E. we used jump ropes and hula hoops. We will continue to practice both. When we got back to the room, we had Art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla. We used markers to design a secret treat bag picture that we will get for Halloween. Some students also finished their Andy Warhol-inspired paintings from last week or had free draw. Then we got our things, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to check over homework for the week! Neat and complete packets are due on Friday.
