More With Apples...and a Birthday

We had a pleasant Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning business. Then we read two books: "One Little, Two Little, Three Little Apples" and "G is for Giraffe." At language arts rotations, students worked on a "G" phonics worksheet and writing "g" words. My groups read "I Am" and made a riddle book called "The Little Red House." The other groups started our new secret centers. They include: Oil pastels and watercolor pictures at the art center, playing games at Starfall. com at the computer center, listening to "Humpty Dumpty" by Daniel Kirk at the listening center, Making AABB and ABC patterns at the math center, and using Legos and Magni-Tiles at the play center. After recess, we recited "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary," did some rhyming and had math. We counted all of the apples we brought in and sorted them by color. Then we made an apple graph.

After lunch, we had Theater with Ms. Nichols in the auditorium. We worked on projection and the stories "Hey Diddle, Diddle" and "Little Miss Muffet." We read some books, sang "I'm a Little Teapot," and wrote about our lesson in our arts journals when we got back to the room. For P.E., we worked on bouncing balls to a friend and learning to jump rope. To end the day, we celebrated my birthday with sugar-free popsicles in the shade. Then we played "Mr. Ricker Says," packed up, and lined up for home.

Don't forget to finish and check over your homework packets tonight!
