Earthquake Drill

We had a good day in Room 2. We began with Nutrition and our morning activities. We read "Pumpkins" and another one of Ziggy's books, "Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur!" At language arts rotations, students worked on matching like pumpkin faces. My groups wrote letters to Ziggy, our Star of the Week. The other groups had their first secret center. This rotation includes: Painting a face on a large pumpkin at the art center, playing games at Abcya. com at the computer center, listening to "Woo! The Not-So-Scary Ghost" at the listening center, completing an AB pattern at the math center, and using blocks, gears, Lincoln Logs, and farm animals at the play center. After recess, we came in to class and had the Earthquake Drill. Students did a nice job ducking and covering under desks and tables to protect themselves. Then we went out to the big yard while faculty teams practiced strategies to effectively keep us safe in an emergency. Students got to read books and play math games while we waited. Despite it being a bit hot and sunny, it went well. When we got back to the room, we only had a couple of minutes before lunch, so we recited "Little Jack Horner."

After lunch, we had theater in the auditorium. Ms. Nichols had teams do a final rehearsal for next week. I know it's at an inconvenient time, but our performance is at 12:00 P.M. next Thursday, October 23rd. I know that many parents will be unable to make it to this short 15-20 minute theater event, but if you can, I know that our students would appreciate it. You don't have to RSVP, just meet us in the auditorium next Thursday at noon. We wrote in our theater journals afterwards about using gestures when we perform. For Star of the Week, Ziggy forgot her pictures, so we shared another book she brought called "The Super Sprowtz: Origins." It was silly! For P.E. we worked with a partner using hula hoops and jump ropes. To end the day we talked about friends and made a picture of ourselves with a friend. Then we packed up, played some "Mr. Ricker Says," and lined up for home.

Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
