The Sun

It was a hot Wednesday outside of Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Next, we read "Copycats" and came up with more words that start with the letter "C." At language arts rotations, students worked on "C" phonics. My groups read "At School" and practiced good "C" handwriting. The other groups had their first secret center of this rotation. They include: Painting a dot picture at the Art Center, playing games at PlanetBravo.com at the Computer Center, Identifying like  shapes at the Math Center, playing with blocks, toys, and puzzles, at the Play Center, and writing words in "My Shape Book" at the Writing Center. After recess, we had math. We reviewed Chapter 1 and worked on solving problems by drawing a diagram.

It was very hot outside, so we had an lunch and recess to get back inside where we have very effective air conditioning. We talked about families and the people in our families. We read two books: "My Mom is the Best!" and "Me and My Dad" before tracing some family words. We got a chance to look at books with a friend, too. For science, we learned about the sun. We learned that it is one million times larger than the Earth and can get as hot as 15 million degrees. We made a picture of the sun using colored chalk, trying to include some sunspots and a corona. After reciting "Hickory Dickory Dock" we had P.E. Coach Angel said it was too hot to play outside, so we went into Room 33 and did some cup stacking. Coach had four to six students up at a time. We have some fast learners! The class did a great job! After a water break, we ended the day in the library where Mrs. Singh read us two books. Then we put up our chairs, packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
