Short E and Art with Ms. Maria

We had a good Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and with Nutrition. Then we read "My 'E' Book" and came up with words that have the "short e" sound, as in egg and elephant. At language arts rotations, students used crayons, glue, and plastic grass to make the tactile page "Easter Grass on 'E's on an Elephant." My groups read "I Can!" and worked on neat "E" handwriting. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We used cubes to build and count numbers to 10.

After lunch, we recited our new poem, "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater." Then we had Art with Ms. Maria.  Ms. Maria (and Miss Karla) will visit us each Monday afternoon through January. Today students got to work on Jackson Pollack inspired art by splattering paint on canvas. They also got some time to have free draw using markers. After P.E. on the kindergarten yard, we ended the day with a new listening center activity. As practice for our next secret centers, we listened to a story (Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! I'm Off to the Moon! by Dan Yaccarino), wrote the title, author, and what happened in the story, and drew a picture of our favorite part. It is very similar to our weekly book report (on purpose). We did a nice job!  Then we packed up, passed out homework packets, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework for the week. We do NOT have school this Wednesday, September 23. Also, our first at-home project, the "All About Me" book, went home today. Look over directions and work with your child to complete the project by Tuesday, October 6th. As always, see me if you have any questions or concerns.
