Plant Needs

We had a busy Wednesday working on activities for Open House tomorrow. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "The Tiny Seed." At language arts rotations, students worked on tracing and decorating our Open House writing. My groups wrote about what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of "The Tiny Seed." The other groups had their last secret center of this rotation.  After recess, we recited "Come to the Window" and had math. We worked with a partner to compare the weight of objects by using a scale. Students also tried to balance the scale by finding combinations that had equal weights.

After lunch, we read the book "Flowers" and discussed our theme of plants. After reviewing plant parts, we learned what plants need to survive: water, sun, soil, and air (or carbon dioxide). Then we worked on a page where we matched plant needs to pictures and wrote sentences on the back. We had a little choose time next while a few students finished up some Open House activities. We also checked on the progress of the seeds we planted several days ago. Most have turned into little plants! For P.E., we used balls and hula hoops to play since Coach Angel was unavailable today. Then we shared Dashiell's Science Fair project before ending the day in the library. Mrs. Singh read us a quick story and then we looked at and checked out library books! We're keeping them in the room this week, but after Spring Break, we will be allowed to take them home. Then we packed up and lined up for home!

Don't forget that tomorrow is Open House!  Room 2 will be Open from 5:30-6:30 P.M., along with other K-2 classes. Grades 3-5 will be open from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Science Fair projects in the auditorium will be on display from 5:30-7:00 P.M. We hope to see you there!
