More With Y, Music, and Popcorn

We had a fun Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and having Nutrition outside. After morning activities, we read "Chloe" and "Y is for Yak." At language arts rotations, students worked on "Y" phonics and sentences. My groups read "Can It Fit?," discussed brushing our teeth together, and completed a cut  and paste by matching pictures to sentences. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we practiced sight words, recited "Yankee Doodle," and had math. We did some problem solving with a partner where we looked for a pattern when breaking numbers into two parts. We finished really fast!

After lunch, we had Music. Ms. Phiri had been ill all week, but was back today and we were very happy about it!  We sang a few songs together and got a preview of next week. When we got back to Room 2, we had Star of the Week. Chloe had us estimate kumquats from her tree at home. There were 60 kumquats. Lila guessed it exactly!  Then we had P.E. on the kindergarten yard. To end the day, we had a popcorn party. We ate a cup of popcorn while we watched "Dr. Rabbit and the Tooth Defenders," which was about good dental hygiene, and "The Cat in the Hat." Then we packed up Friday Folders, gave prizes for 20 super star sticks, and passed out certificates for an all-green week. Have a great weekend!

Be sure to look for your child's report card stapled in the back of their Friday Folder. A conference reminder sheet is also included. Lastly, be sure to move your clocks forward this weekend!
