Sheep

It was another ridiculously hot day in Los Angeles today. We did our best to keep cool and productive in Room 2. We began Thursday with our morning business and by reading the story "Good Morning, Chick." At language arts rotations, we wrote letters to Yetunde, our Star of the Week. My groups wrote in their kindergarten journals about our trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific yesterday. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Jack Sprat" and had math. We worked in groups to do some problem solving with flat shapes.

After lunch, we cooled down by learning our second song for culmination. Then we read "Sheep in a Jeep." Since we're studying farm animals, we followed the story by making a sheep and using cotton balls to make it feel soft like wool. For Star of the Week, Yetunde shared some very cute pictures. We had a very short P.E. after that on the kindergarten yard.  When we came in, Samara shared her Animal Report and Diorama project. It was fantastic (Don't forget-they're due next Tuesday, May 20th!). Then we started a unit on water in science. Students learned what water is, as well as its elements. Then we observed water using wax paper, eyedroppers, and magnifying glasses. Students had fun looking at the drops, seeing their shape and how they react to other drops. After a little clean-up, we packed up our things and lined up for home.

Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
