More with Butterflies

We had a very productive Wednesday in Room 2. We began with our morning business (which included finding Zero Heroes) and by reading "The Life Cycle of a Butterfly." In case you haven't heard from your child, we got some butterfly larvae last Friday and have been monitoring them all week. One started the day in a cocoon, while the other five are still hungry caterpillars. It has made studying insects that much more fun! At language arts rotations, students made a plate showing the four stages in the life cycle of a butterfly: egg, larva (or caterpillar), pupa (or chrysalis), and adult (butterfly). They look very cool! My groups finished Mother's Day cards. The other groups had their last secret center. After snack (which included a Zero Hero treat) and recess, we recited "It's Raining" and had math. We worked on figuring out what shapes make up other shapes. Students also got to experiment and create their own shape designs.

After lunch, we practiced our Mother's Day poem. Then we finished up our "life cycle of a butterfly" plates. For Star of the Week, Warner shared his favorite book. He did a great job reading "The Lego Movie" Awesome Adventures" to the class. Then we went to P.E. on the big yard. Coach Angel had the class play a bowling game. We followed that with a trip to the library. Mr. K read us "It Could Always Be Worse." We said good-bye to Mr. K, too, because today was his last day at Third Street. When we got back to the the room, we found out that a butterfly had emerged from its cocoon! The class was very excited. We will keep it for the day and release it tomorrow afternoon. Then we got out things and lined up for home.
