S Blends and Farm Animals

It was another hot day today in Los Angeles, but we tried our best to keep cool and get some work done in Room 2. We began Tuesday with our morning business. Then we brainstormed some "S Blend" words and read "Skippy Skunk." At language arts rotations, students found the missing "s blend" and wrote sentences. My groups took the math topic 15 test and read "Sam and Mat" book 12. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Jack Sprat" and had math. We recognized solid shapes and worked to identify them in a picture.

After lunch, we did some rhyming and sight word recognition before practicing our kindergarten medley for the end of the year. Then we read "Down on the Farm" together and repeated the sounds that different farm animals make. Students then matched the sound to the animal on a cut and paste sheet. For Star of the Week, we reviewed what we learned about Yetunde yesterday. Then she shared some cute toys: a Dora the Explorer doll, a talking penguin, and a cute teddy bear. The class liked them all!  We went out for P.E. on the kindergarten yard next. It was quite hot, so we came in after a bit and watched "The Magic School Bus: In a Hive" in the air conditioning. No one complained. Then we quickly reviewed our homework, got our things, and lined up for home.

Don't forget to wear your class t-shirt tomorrow. I also suggest having sunscreen for the time we're in the sun. And, of course, bring a lunch with drink for the day. See you tomorrow!
