A Day With Our Butterfly

We had a bit of a hectic Thursday in Room 2. There was a lot to do, some unexpected events, and the allure of observing our butterfly all day.We got through it okay, though. We began with our morning business and by having Warner read more of "The Lego Movie: Awesome Adventures."  At language arts rotations, students wrote letters to Warner, our Star of the Week. My groups worked on an ELA (writing) assessment on saving water. It was different in that students got to watch a video before writing on the topic. The other groups started new secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "It's Raining" and had math. Today we looked at solid shapes to see which ones can roll, stack, and slide. We decided that the round sided shapes roll and flat sided shapes can stack and slide.

After lunch, we read "From Caterpillar to Butterfly" and practiced our Mother's Day poem. We plan on performing tomorrow at 2:10 in Room 2. Then we had art. We talked about light and dark colors. We learned that adding white to a color makes it lighter and adding black to a color makes it darker. Then we mixed colors to show a progression getting lighter and again with one getting darker. It was a fun challenge. For Star of the Week, Warner shared some very nice family photos. To end the day, we looked at our butterfly and went out for P.E. on the kindergarten yard. When we got back inside, we packed up and headed for home.

Don't forget to finish and check homework packets for tomorrow. And, again, all moms are invited to join us for a short performance in Room 2 at 2:10!
