The Letter K and "The Chocolate Chip Ghost"

A fun and bustling start to Halloween week in Room 2!  We began with our typical morning business. We read "My K Book" and brainstormed "K" words. In language arts rotations we did our tactile page, "Kidney Beans on Ks on a Kite." My groups took the math Topic 5 test and practiced "K" handwriting. Other groups had secret centers.  After snack and recess, we reviewed our math counting skills before introducing Topic 6 on Numbers to 100. We played a game with a partner that involved counting and reading numbers.

After lunch, we introduced our new poem "Georgie Porgie," did some rhyming, letter and sound matching, and initial word sounds. Then we used a felt board to tell the story "The Chocolate Chip Ghost." Students then sequenced the story in a cut and paste. We went to P.E. on the big yard before ending the day making ghost puppets from "The Chocolate Chip Ghost."  It was fun!  Then we practiced our "Five Little Pumpkins" song, passed out homework packets, and lined up for home.

Don't forget about our Halloween party on Thursday. Also, parents, be sure to do YOUR homework this week!
