Friends, Pumpkins, and Mr. Ricker's Birthday!

We began Wednesday talking about friends. We read a book called "Friends" and then drew and used watercolor paints to make a picture of ourselves with friends during rotations. Friends, incidentally, is our current theme in the California Treasures language arts program. We also did some "G" handwriting, read "I Can, We Can," and finished secret centers.  After snack and recess, we practiced the poem "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary" and had math. We compared numbers to 5, meaning we counted groups of objects and figured out if it was more or less than 5.

At lunch, all five kindergarten classes sang to me, as it was my birthday. After reading the book "Apples and Pumpkins," we made Pumpkin Guy (or Pumpkin Girl)! It was a bit time consuming, as we had to color, cut, paste, fold, and assemble at different points of the project.  When we finished, we went to the big yard and had a birthday treat for my birthday. The students enjoyed a cherry, orange, or grape (sugar-free) popsicle. From there we went to Coach Angel for P.E. where we used scooters. After that, we went to the library where we met Mr. K, our new librarian. He read us "Chicka, Chicka, Boom Boom." Then we came back to class and packed up for home.  Thank you very much for the birthday cards, balloons, and presents!  I appreciate them VERY much!
