A Rainy Day

The day began with some clouds and got rainy as the day went along. We changed some of our plans, but still got a lot done. We had language arts rotations, as always, and worked on the "H" sound. Students continue to impress by writing "H' words on the back. My groups wrote in their journals about pumpkins, while others had secret centers. After snack and recess, we shared some of our "All About Me" projects and discussed 2 More in math.

It stared raining at the end of recess, so by lunch, we knew our afternoon would be affected. We ate lunch near the cafeteria and then came back to the room to watch a "Sam and Mat" SRA Reading video. We read a book called "Left or Right?" to practice recognizing things on our left or right. Then at art, we started a new unit on Shapes. We looked at two pictures "American Gothic" and "When Worlds Collide" to see how lines outline shapes. Then we drew a space creature picture in pencil, traced the shapes in NEW oil pastels and filled in the rest with watercolors. They look nice!  Coach Angel graciously offered to have P.E. despite the dampness, but we had to run inside when it started drizzling again. Inside we did some ring tosses with small rings, and then big ring tosses with hula hoops. That was fun! We shared a couple more "All About Me" books before going to the library. Mr. K read us "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type." Then we came back and packed up for home. The Students did a wonderful job reading and sharing their projects. They are on our front bulletin board if you want to stop by and check them out. And don't forget that tomorrow is Picture Day! Bring in order forms if you're interested.
