The Letter Q

We had a slow start to our Monday in Room 203. It took us a little while to get going, but we made it. We spent our morning adding 10 names to our 100 Day Book. After calendar and sharing about our weekend, we had Reader's Workshop. We learned a strategy to preview a page and locate known words before reading. We also learned about the letter "Q." We read "My 'Q' Book," brainstormed some "Q" words, and used crayons, glue, and Q-Tips to make the tactile page "Q-Tips on 'Q's on a Quilt."  After Road to Reading, we had snack and recess. We ended our morning by practicing good "Q" handwriting and sentences. This week in honor of the letter "Q," we will try writing question sentences and use question marks.

After lunch, we had math. We looked a comparing numbers and measurements using set units. We played a game with dice comparing the numbers we rolled as being more or less. We also got to use unifix cubes to measure and compare sticks with a neighbor. Later we introduced Emma as our Star of the Week. She shared her awesome poster and took questions from the class. Next we had Spanish with Sra. Colmenero. She had the class work more with frutas. Unfortunately, P.E. was canceled when there wasn't a sub. So we reviewed our new sight words (like, keep, for, bring, he), recited our new poem (Jack Be Nimble), and read a book on Penguins. We also did the Penguin Dance. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, counted super star sticks, and passed out prizes for students with twenty.  Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework for the week. 100 Day Shirt projects should be worn on Friday. If you haven't turned in "Homework for Parents," please do so ASAP. We have P/T Conferences next week!
